Nobody really wants, or needs the best of anything. It doesn’t matter, whether it’s digital cameras, automobiles, homes, or jet airplanes. What we really want and expect, is value for our money. If I’m going to spend 0 for a camera, then I better get 0 worth of features and quality from that camera. If I spend 00 on a camera, then I better get 00 worth back as well. If you follow a few simple rules, you’ll see how easy it is to get the best camera your money can buy.

Acclaimed science fiction author Theodore Sturgeon was famous for a couple of adages known as Sturgeons Laws. My favorite, and the one most relevant to our discussion is, “Ninety percent of everything is crap.” It’s simple, direct and brutally honest. It also really helps narrow down our search. If the camera your looking at is not on at least one top ten list, then drop it from your search. If it doesn’t have at least a four star review from someone, then drop if off your list. There are so many cameras to choose from these days, there’s really no need to settle for anything less then the best.

Camera Image Stabilized

The second step, and a little more effort intensive, is the trial run phase. You need to try out as many of the cameras on your now very short list (thanks to Theodore) as possible. Spend a day, and blitz your favorite camera stores. Go to two or three, and just annoy and pepper the sales staff with as many questions and requests as you can. If you go during off hours, you should have plenty of time and space to try out all the cameras you want. See if you can cajole them into letting you take a few home to try out. After this exercise, your short list should be really short. Maybe even a list of 1.

The Best Digital Camera For The Money

Of course if the above seems like to much work for you slackers out there, here’s my short list of great cameras that are all money well spent. In the under 0 category, the Canon PowerShot A570IS. It’s a simple point and shoot with 4x zoom lens, image stabilization, and Canon reliability. For the portability minded ultra compact FaceBook crowd, you can’t go wrong with the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph. Slightly less image quality then the A570IS, and slightly more expensive, but a very easy traveler. Another favorite compact of mine is the Olympus Stylus 790SW. The only waterproof, shockproof, dust proof, and freeze proof camera I know.

Although the most efficient way to become a good photographer is to just go out and take tons on tons of pictures, it doesn’t hurt picking up a few photography books for beginners either. The key here is that you take what you read in these books and try it out afterwards. That’s how you become a pro in less time than you could imagine. There are so many books in photography, that it can be difficult to tell which ones are any good.

What I’ve tried to do in this article is to point out 3 best “must-read” photography books for beginners, based on reviews, forum advices and my own experience.

Camera Image Stabilized

Beyond The Lens

by: Association of Photographers

The 3 Best Photography Books For Beginners

This book is widely considered one of the best books you can get if you plan to make photography more than just a hobby. Although it’s more based around how the industry works and how to make a living from photography, it will give you important insights into the mindset of professional photographers.

It is used in many professional courses throughout the world and is considered a must-read by most professionals.

I recommend this for anyone wanting to take their photography to a professional level.

Digital Photographer’s Handbook

by: Tom Ang

Although somewhat dated, this still remains one of the best guides to digital photography available.

It starts out somewhat basic and builds the foundation for the rest of the book beautifully. The book goes into how to plan trips, using the “digital darkroom”, file maintenance and the basics of composition.

The book use everyday pictures as examples to make it easy to understand and follow along with the examples. It show you how to handle common problems that often occur when taking pictures and goes really in depth on how to take the picture from the camera, onto the computer and then making it look awesome.

I recommend this to beginners and intermediates that have little or no experience in digital image manipulation.

How to Photograph Absolutely Everything: Successful Pictures from your Digital Camera

by: Tom Ang

This is not some kind of special endorsement for Tom Ang, but he does write some really impressive books, and this one is not an exception.

As the title says; you will learn how to photograph absolutely everything. How?

By teaching you the basics that are always applicable whatever you’re taking pictures of. All the technical jargon is gone and the focus is put into how to take great looking photos. This is really what puts this book way ahead of similar books.

The book is beautifully structured and illustrated and explains everything in plain English, making this book very accessible for anyone with digital camera.

I recommended this to beginners and beyond.

It’s hard trying to carry some of the high-end SLR cameras around or finding a compact model with advanced image quality for those quick moments in time. With 12 megapixels and 720p video, the Powershot SD940IS provides high quality pictures and video in a compact size. This little camera is pack with features like image stabilization, blink detection, and face detection. Add in the compact size and you’re off to shoot photos everywhere like a pro.

With a 28mm lens on the front to capture beautiful snapshots, the SD 940IS also has a 2.7″ LCD screen, which looks great when showing off stuff to your friends on the go. If you want to watch video, you have the option to use the HDMI output to view all of you home movies on the big screen. Just use the HDMI cable to hook it up and follow the menus to start watching. Aside from the benefits of removing red eye, you get a boatload of settings to get the right lighting and contrast for whatever situation. If you can’t decide, there’s an auto setting that picks it for you using 22 different presets. The overall size of the SD 940IS makes it easy to carry in your front pocket without feeling bulky. Plus, the buttons are all within reach to keep your hands from straining to take a simple shot of the family.

Camera Image Stabilized

The Powershot SD940IS offers plenty for its 9 price tag. The only problem is the lack of a detailed booklet to show you how to use the damn thing. Some of the settings and menu layout can be confusing to use, but many may stick setting it to auto to save time. This sometimes hurt sales, but it’s a small sacrifice for quality in this case. Don’t bother with asking about editing software. You’re better off getting one that more than the included tools and interface. Short battery life is also a problem, so make sure to bring extra batteries if you plan to shoot for a long time.

Canon Powershot SD940IS – A Review of the Latest Camera From Canon

The SD 940IS is a great point-and shoot camera for the pros and consumers wanting great photos in a compact size. It doesn’t matter if you need to capture moments of a wedding or want to snap a few shots in a nightclub. The Powershot SD 940IS has the situation covered in more ways than one. Right now Canon offers the SD940IS in black, blue, sliver and brown (all come with a metallic finish). If you don’t know how to operate a camera at all, you may get a little aggravated trying to figure this one out. If you’re a pro, this may be a breeze as long as you don’t get lost within the menus to set everything up. Beyond that, this is a great buy for the price and a great gift for this holiday season.

There are those who love taking good pictures and then there are those who just love good pictures. As many of us would know, taking a professional-looking picture can be quite a daunting task. For those who would looking to take great pictures without the hassle of hundreds of custom settings, consider getting your hands of the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera. This model comes with a 20x wide-angle optical image stabilized zoom feature.

With a host of automatic features, the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera enables you to take high quality images with little hassle. Those who are used to using Canon’s SX series will immediately notice a great improvement in image quality with the new model. Its 28-560mm lens captures amazing pictures putting in head and shoulders above other camera models of its class.

Camera Image Stabilized

The new Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera has a DIGIC 4 image processor that increases the rate of noise reduction delivering high image quality a high ISO speeds. It also has a new I-Contrast feature that automatically adjusts contrast rations for better transition between light and dark shades.

Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP Digital Camera

Another impressive feature of the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera is its impressive 20x optical zoom. This zooming capacity is way above your average set of binoculars. While testing out the zoom in my living room, the camera can easily capture crisp and bright images of some small prints across the room.

This new model has a 2.5 inch LCD display, which in my opinion, seems a tad small by today’s standards. I personally would prefer a bigger display screen more than anything else. All in all, in my books, the Canon Powershot SX10IS 10MP digital camera is still one of the best cameras in its class.

It’s getting harder to make decisions when you want to buy a compact digital camera since there are many types of cameras that have its own distinctive specifications. Therefore, you have to spend extra time on knowing the products – in this case, before your start buying it, let’s make a fair comparison between America’s most affordable point-and-shoot cameras: Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 and Canon PowerShot SD870 IS – based on few specifications including:

  • The lens – the zoom lens on the camera
  • The resolution of the camera – total megapixels of the camera
  • The market price – price that available for purchase via Amazon
  • Other features of the camera that you should consider

Camera Image Stabilized

Specification #1: The Lens

Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Vs Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 – Which Compact Digital Camera to Buy?

Obviously, Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 has greater zoom lens (with 5X optical zoom) than Canon PowerShot SD870IS (with only 3.8X optical zoom). It means that Sony CyberShot is capable of taking good pictures of distant objects clearer that Canon.

However, amateur photographers are not advised to make full use of the optical zoom in which it would increase the chances of having blurry images as the image stabilizer is not entirely solid-proof at this moment. Therefore, some amateurs are satisfied with Canon’s 3.8X optical zoom – which is enough of taking good scenery photos.

Specification #2: The Megapixels of the Camera

In this relative comparison, both compact digital cameras have similar megapixels – Sony CyberShot DSC-T200 has 8.1 megapixels, while Canon PowerShot SD870 IS has 8.0 megapixels. For amateurs, the 0.1 Megapixel difference doesn’t affect much on this particular Canon PowerShot camera users in terms of producing high-resolution pictures.

Specification #3: The Market Price

Although both cameras respectively cost differently, you can still find lower prices for it via Amazon. For instance, the price for this particular Sony digital camera (price can be around 0) may be cheaper than this comparative Canon PowerShot digital camera (price can be around 0).

Other features of the camera that you should consider:

Although both cameras have image stabilization and face detection features, this Canon PowerShot has advanced presets that allow photographers to take pictures clearly under certain conditions since photo-taking process can be so unforgiving. This Sony CyberShot has 3.5-inch LCD touch screen that encompasses on-screen buttons for more spontaneous operation. Apart from this, both cameras support different flash memory cards respectively – Memory Stick Pro Duo for Sony Cybershot camera whereas SDHC memory card for Canon PowerShot camera.

Before you start making decision on which digital camera to buy – always read the product reviews and customers’ feedback in order to find a camera that suits your preferences.

Thanks To : carbon fiber tripod ape case

Somewhere, someone decided that there was a gap between the fairly inexpensive point and shoot automatic digital cameras, and the somewhat more sophisticated digital SLR cameras used by many professional photographers.  That biggest feature separating the two cameras was lens zoom.  Hence, was born the ultra zoom, or extended zoom digital cameras.  They’re a little bigger to carry around, but usually sport significantly improved lenses over the compact and ultra compact point and shoots.  In addition, they don’t require lugging around a case of supporting gear around, like many of the SLR cameras do.

Featuring upwards of 20X optical zoom, these are impressive cameras, and can be the perfect camera for certain situations.  Like when you show up late for the wedding, and get stuck in the back pews.  With these cameras you’ll be able to still get great shots of the bride and grooms big kiss, without being mistaken for the official wedding photographer.  As a general note for all these cameras, image stabilization is a gotta-have, unless you happen to have the rock steady hands of a surgeon.

Panasonic Lumix FZ28

The Best Zoom Digital Camera For 2009

This Panasonic model features an 18X zoom lens, and goes for around 0 or less.  the IA (intelligent auto) setting works quite well.  The auto settings are important for many photographers this camera targets as manual tweaking is generally not something a lot of casual photographers do.  Of course, for those who like to make adjustments, the option is there.  The LCD is a nice sized 2.7 inches.  The zoom control seems to be opposite of what I would have expected, but after spending a little time with it, I’m sure most people get used to it.

Canon Powershot SX10 IS

Canon is one of my personal favorite brands, and this camera is one of the reasons why.  This Canon is comparable in price (around 0) to the previously reviewed Panasonic Lumix, but with 20X zoom, instead of just 18.  Even a few die hard SLR owners I’ve hear from, swear from this camera.  A lens range of 28-560mm is nothing to sneeze at.  Especially with the clarity, and noise free pictures produced by this camera, even at higher ISO settings.  You can of course, get better clarity and image sharpness with a good SLR, but your also going to spend at least double the price to get there.  Not to mention haul a lot more gear around for a SLR.  The other nice thing about this camera, is the ability to capture video files, even if they are in the somewhat more obscure .mov Apple format.

Olympus SP-565 UZ

You should be able to find this Olympus for under 0 these days. Which is pretty good, when you consider the quality of the 20X zoom lens that comes with it. Some would argue, that is the successor to the somewhat botched Olympus SP565UZ. It’s a much better camera, a little bit lighter, and includes both an auto zoom and auto focus feature. The zoom is a joy to work with, and the somewhat advance features of face recognition, and shadow adjustments work as advertised. It’s got a cool feature call pre-capture, that I suppose, is the poor mans answer to burst mode offered by many high priced SLRs. It basically allows you to capture up to 10 photos in rapid succession, and then choose the ones you want to keep.
